With over 23 years’ experience in business origination, re/insurance structuring including alternative capital, as Head of Emerging Markets Brendan drives XL Catlin’s emerging market strategies. From seeking profitable growth through local partnerships to industry-wide efforts to close the Protection Gap, Brendan works closely with multilaterals, regulators, governmental stakeholders, NGOs, distribution sources and industry leaders to increase re/insurance penetration and resilience in emerging markets. Internally, he spearheads these efforts bringing together multi-disciplinary teams across XL Catlin, in the Insurance, Reinsurance and investment segments, to develop innovative re/insurance solutions.
Before joining XL Catlin in 2015, Brendan was a managing director at Guy Carpenter & Company in Singapore and head of multinational and retrocession business for Asia Pacific. Prior to working at Guy Carpenter, he held various senior level positions with Willis Re Bermuda, Gallagher Re Bermuda, IBL/Independent Management Group Bermuda and Aon Limited UK.
Brendan is our business lead for the Lloyd’s Disaster Risk Facility (DRF) of which XL Catlin is a founding member, and the re/insurance industry representative for the Westminster Africa Business Group. He is an active member of different industry associations, founder chairman of the Bermuda U40s and a regular industry speaker.
An avid reader of history, traveler as well as a rugby and skiing enthusiast, Brendan is a graduate of University College London.
